About Us

Okay, actually there is no "us", but just "me". Hmmm, I suppose I could have called this section "About Me", but that sounds strange...

My name is Grace Gilbert and I am the owner and operator of Grayslake Webmasters.

Several years ago, I started a business with a partner and one of our first tasks was to develop a web presence. We contacted several web designers and were shocked at how much they were going to charge us to put together a web site. We were a brand new business with lots of out-flow, but very little in-flow and those designers were just beyond our reach. Ouch!

Luckily for our business, I have always loved working on computers. I went and got myself some basic software and set out to make a website.

My first few attempts were downright laughable (actually at the time they were more "cryable" but perspective softens with the passing of years), but with time, research and a little help now and then from more experienced designers, I finally learned how to put together a decent website.

As word spread among friends and neighbors of this new skill, I was asked to create web sites for a couple of community projects. Soon I found I was spending more time on web site design than my own business and I was enjoying myself more, to boot.

So I made the plunge, sold my business and I've put out my shingle as a web designer.

There are lots and lots of web designers out there -- most far more experienced and far more expensive than I am. My goal is to serve that group of customers that included my partner and myself a few years ago -- looking for a basic website and not wanting to mortgage the house to get it!
